Julie Gawenda, 2nd year MSc student, took her research out into the streets this past Saturday, June 14th, as part of the Soapbox Science public outreach initiative. Soapbox Science is as a global grass-roots platform showcasing cutting-edge science from women and non-binary scientists. It stems from the tradition of ‘soapboxes’—a box or crate used as a makeshift stand by a public speaker.

Julie presented her talk ‘Inside the Bag: Exploring the Science of Peristomal Skin Health’ several times to the public on South King Street in Dublin City Centre, with the assistance of an anatomical model and ostomy bags (provided by Hollister Incorporated).
